How to Soothe Summer Skin

Even if the weather in your area hasn’t fully transitioned into autumn yet, you may still be feeling the effects of a long, hot summer. Spending time outdoors, lounging by the lake, or simply taking the family on a fun vacation to a drier region can leave your skin looking a little worse for the wear. Thankfully, there are a few easy ways to help your skin recover while you’re ramping up for the holiday season.

Deciphering If Your Skin Is Dry or Dehydrated

Understanding your skin type isn’t often easy, especially when it comes to deciphering the difference between dry and dehydrated skin. They sound similar, but dehydrated skin usually happens as a result of changes in weather, hormones, and even a lack of sleep. Dehydrated skin can actually be oily, but what it truly lacks is water … and drinking 64 ounces a day probably won’t do a lot for your skin. Dehydrated skin general feels tight and looks dull (and, yes, it can make your fine lines look more obvious).  If any of this sounds familiar, keep reading.

Add Hyaluronic Acid to Your Skincare Routine

Isn’t it funny how some ingredients sound scary? Such is the case with hyaluronic acid. Unlike the alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHA) used to improve skin’s texture and keep the pores clear, hyaluronic acid (HA) is a skin plumping powerhouse that holds 1,000 times its weight in water. When applied after cleansing, it draws moisture into the skin to help plump it back up and improve its radiance. Look for an HA that contains a combination of molecular weights (high, medium, and low) to make sure it delivers its goodness both above and below the skin’s surface.

Switch to a Soothing Body Wash

Sun ravaged skin can feel dry and rough to the touch. It’s tempting to reach for a body scrub to buff out the rough spots, but some areas of the body – like the neck and decolletage area – don’t respond well to abrasive scrubs. Remember, the skin in these areas is thinner than on your arms and legs, so they need to be treated with gentler products. Switching to body wash and a soft, fluffy, cleansing puff will ensure your skin is clean but still lightly exfoliated. The White Moss Shower Gel contains soothing chamomile and marigold extracts to effectively moisturize your skin while calming inflammation.

Learn the Secret to Getting the Most from Your Body Lotion

Body lotion does wonders in terms of soothing dry, itchy skin, but there’s often a tactile tradeoff in the form of stickiness. Most people either love or hate body lotion, which is why we formulated our Giallo Intense Moisturizing Body Lotion with nourishing almond oil and protective mimosa. The lotion provides much needed hydration yet absorbs completely. You can even help it along by applying it to damp skin after stepping out of the shower.

Embrace Body Butter Before Autumn Winds Kick In

If you’ve tried all of the above and your skin is still screaming for help, it’s time to invest in body butter. Unlike liquid moisturizing products, butters are formulated with a host of helpful oils to deeply hydrate the skin in ways that water cannot. The White Moss Karité Body Butter includes shea butter as well as grapeseed, sweet almond, jojoba, coconut, and rice bran oils. It’s rich in antioxidants and helps keep skin feeling firm and elastic. Use it all over, or just on your hands, knees, heels, and elbows.
